No. Phone enrichment skips the lookup when the prospect already has a phone number.
How to Enrich Prospects Using Workflows
Use the Enrich Prospect workflow action to retrieve additional prospect information from a connected outbound platform or an enrichment provider. You can start enrichment when a lead meets a workflow trigger and run follow-up workflows after enrichment finishes.
Available Enrichment Options
The Enrich Prospect action offers five options:
Smartlead
Instantly
EmailBison
PlusVibe
Waterfall (uses BetterContact for enrichment)
The outbound-platform options pull available prospect or campaign data from the corresponding connected platform. Waterfall is used for enrichment requests such as finding a prospect's phone number. BetterContact is part of Waterfall, not a separate option in this action.
How to Set Up Prospect Enrichment
Open Workflows and create a workflow.
Choose the event that should start enrichment. For example, select Add Label and the Interested label.
Add any conditions needed to narrow which prospects should be enriched. To request a missing phone number, use the Phone Number condition with is empty.
Add an action and choose Enrich Prospect.
Select the enrichment source, such as Waterfall, and configure the available options for that source.
Save and enable the workflow, then test it on a prospect that meets the trigger and conditions.
The trigger controls when the action runs. It does not change which enrichment provider the action uses.
What Happens When a Phone Number Already Exists?
Phone enrichment skips a prospect who already has a phone number. This avoids an unnecessary enrichment request and provider credits. The existing phone number is not replaced by that skipped run.
Because no enrichment job starts in this case, the Enrichment Completed trigger does not fire. If your team must process prospects with existing phone numbers, create a separate workflow for them.
Run Another Workflow After Enrichment
The Enrichment Completed trigger starts a workflow when an enrichment job finishes, including an unsuccessful lookup. Use the Phone Number condition to handle prospects differently depending on whether a number was found.
For example, a team can notify a client and update a Google Sheet after attempting to find a phone number. To cover prospects who already have a number, use four workflows:
Phone already present: Trigger when an Interested label is added, with Phone Number is not empty. Send the notification and add the prospect to the Google Sheet. No enrichment is needed.
Phone missing: Trigger when an interested prospect meets your chosen incoming-message or label criteria, with Phone Number is empty. Run Enrich Prospect → Waterfall.
Enrichment finished, phone found: Trigger on Enrichment Completed, with Phone Number is not empty. Send the notification and add the prospect to the Google Sheet.
Enrichment finished, phone not found: Trigger on Enrichment Completed, with Phone Number is empty. Send the notification and add the prospect to the Google Sheet without a phone number.
Completion-based workflows run after enrichment finishes, so you do not need to guess how long the lookup will take by adding a fixed delay.
Check Enrichment Results
Review the prospect's details and workflow execution logs after testing. A provider can finish an enrichment request without finding a phone number. This is different from a workflow that never started because the prospect already had one.
Common Questions
Will enrichment overwrite an existing phone number?
Does Enrichment Completed run when enrichment was skipped?
No. It fires after a job actually starts and finishes, not when the action skips the job because the requested information is already present.
Can a workflow continue if no phone number is found?
Yes. Use Enrichment Completed with the Phone Number is empty condition to run the appropriate notification or follow-up actions after an unsuccessful lookup.
Is BetterContact a separate Enrich Prospect option?
No. BetterContact is used within the Waterfall option.
