Why trust this comparison?

This comparison is written by the Master Inbox team and reviewed by our founder, Abdul Mukati. Every Missive fact comes from Missive's own pages, read on 28 October 2026, and each source is listed at the bottom. Master Inbox is one of the two products compared, so we stick to what is published, and we mark anything the pages do not say. Missive is a strong product for the work it was built for. For the full price list, read our Missive pricing guide. For other options, see the Missive alternative page and the Missive alternatives guide.

What Missive is

Missive is a collaborative inbox for teams. It brings email, SMS, WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram and live website chat into one place, and it runs as desktop, web and mobile apps. Teams assign conversations to people or teams, talk in internal comments, share drafts, create tasks and keep an audit trail. It also includes an AI assistant, rules and automations, a REST API, rule-based webhooks and an MCP server.

Missive's own site and docs describe a general team inbox for support, sales and operations teams that share customer-facing mailboxes. It is priced per user on three plans: Starter, Productive and Business.

What Master Inbox is

Master Inbox is the reply inbox for outbound. It connects Smartlead, Instantly, EmailBison, Reply.io, Lemlist, HeyReach, Expandi, Aimfox and more, and shows every email and LinkedIn reply in one queue. It reads the mailboxes themselves, so it also threads forwards, CC replies and new-address replies that a sequencer's own inbox does not show.

Replies are labeled by intent as they land. Workflows route them to Slack, sync to HubSpot, stop a sequence when a meeting is booked and fire webhooks. Reply agents answer, follow up and book meetings on your real calendar. It works alongside the sequencer, CRM and support desk you already use. See the outbound teams and agencies pages for how teams set it up.

Missive vs Master Inbox side by side

1. Reply capture

Missive connects Gmail, Microsoft and IMAP/SMTP accounts as personal or shared accounts, with up to 10 personal and 5 shared accounts per user and extra shared accounts sold in blocks of 5. Conversations land in team inboxes where they can be assigned, and auto-assignment balances workload. Master Inbox is built around your sending stack: it connects to your sequencers and reads the mailboxes behind them, so replies from many mailboxes and clients arrive in one queue, with forwards and CC replies threaded in. Master Inbox internal data shows roughly 12% more replies captured than a sequencer reports.

Fit: Missive for conversations that arrive in shared company mailboxes, Master Inbox for replies to campaigns sent from many mailboxes.

2. Labeling and AI

Missive includes an AI assistant that reads thread context, searches the inbox and calendar, and drafts replies for approval. It offers tone matching, translation, summaries, custom prompts and AI rules, with Anthropic, OpenAI or Gemini models through Missive AI Credits or your own key. These features are in Productive and Business. Master Inbox labels every email and LinkedIn reply by intent as it lands, using thirteen default labels or your own taxonomy, on your own OpenAI, Anthropic or OpenRouter key. AI labeling then drives routing, and reply agents can respond, from human-in-the-loop to fully autonomous.

Fit: Missive's assistant helps people write better replies, Master Inbox's labels and agents sort and answer outbound replies at volume.

3. Integrations

Missive's integrations page lists 36 integration listings across 9 categories, including Zapier, Make, HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive, Close, Zoom, Aircall, Google Drive and Asana. Integrations require Productive or Business. Its integrations directory does not list Slack or LinkedIn as of 28 October 2026. Master Inbox lists sequencers, LinkedIn tools, CRMs, booking tools, Slack, Zapier, n8n and Clay across 58 integration pages, and its REST API has 150+ endpoints with webhooks for every event, included on every plan. See the Slack and HubSpot pages.

Fit: Missive for a general business tool stack, Master Inbox for the outbound stack of sequencers, LinkedIn tools and CRMs.

4. Time to set up

Missive offers a 30-day trial of the Productive plan for a user's first organization, with no credit card. Trial limits are 25 users, 10 shared accounts, 2 personal accounts per user and 30 days of history. Master Inbox starts with a free 7-day POC, and onboarding is done with you: we connect your sequencers and inboxes. Agencies can clone a client workspace in one click, each with its own mailboxes, labels, members and limits.

Fit: Missive suits teams who want to self-serve a shared inbox, Master Inbox suits teams who want a guided start with their sending stack.

5. Interface and team work

Missive's strength is collaboration inside the conversation: assignments, internal comments, shared drafts, tasks and an audit trail, in desktop, web and mobile apps. Master Inbox gives sellers one queue across email and LinkedIn, with one thread per prospect, plus reporting on SLA tracking, reply coverage, missed replies and team performance by channel and label. Client logins are scoped to their own inbox only, and client reporting works without a login. Unlimited users on every plan means the whole team can work replies.

Fit: Missive for teams who talk through each conversation together, Master Inbox for teams who work a high volume of replies against an SLA.

6. Pricing

Missive is priced per user per month. Per its billing docs, Starter is $14 on yearly billing or $18 monthly for up to 5 users, Productive is $24 yearly or $30 monthly for up to 50 users, and Business is $36 yearly or $45 monthly with unlimited users. There is no free plan, and the trial runs 30 days. Master Inbox is priced on connected mailboxes and client workspaces: Reply Agent from $499 a month, Agency $599 with up to 3,000 mailboxes and 15 client workspaces, and Team $799 with up to 2,000 mailboxes. Every plan includes unlimited users and starts with a free 7-day POC.

Fit: Missive's bill follows headcount, Master Inbox's follows mailboxes and workspaces.

7. Support and security

Missive's Business plan adds SAML SSO, IP restrictions, advanced analytics and personalized onboarding. Its REST API and webhooks publish rate limits and retry rules, and webhook deliveries can carry an optional HMAC-SHA256 signature. Master Inbox is EU-hosted in Finland and Germany, GDPR-ready with data processing agreements on file, and onboarding is done with you on every plan. Client logins are scoped to their own inbox only, so an agency can show a client their replies without opening the rest of the account.

Fit: Missive's Business plan for SSO and IP controls on a team inbox, Master Inbox for EU-hosted outbound reply data with guided onboarding.

How teams use both

The two products connect to different parts of a stack, so they do not overlap. A team can keep Missive as the shared inbox for company email, SMS and chat, and use Master Inbox for the replies that come from outbound campaigns. Master Inbox labels each reply, sends hot ones to Slack with an approve button, syncs to the CRM and stops the sequence when a meeting is booked. Your sequencer keeps sending, and your support desk keeps handling tickets. Each tool stays in its lane, and the reply layer connects them. For more on the idea, see the unified inbox glossary entry and our shared inbox guide for outbound teams.
