SDR (Sales Development Representative)
An SDR, or sales development representative, is a sales role focused on prospecting and qualifying inbound and outbound leads, typically handing off qualified opportunities to an account executive rather than closing deals themselves. SDRs are usually measured on activity and pipeline generation metrics like meetings booked.
Why it matters for outbound teams
SDRs are usually the ones running cold email and cold outbound sequences day to day, which means they are also the ones triaging the resulting replies and deciding what is worth pursuing. Reply management tools matter directly to this role, since an SDR's productivity depends on how quickly they can find and act on genuine interest inside a much larger volume of replies. SDR performance is commonly tracked through reply rate, positive reply rate, and meetings booked.
