Reply Rate

Reply rate is the percentage of sent emails that receive any response at all, positive, negative, or neutral, calculated by dividing total replies by total emails delivered. It is a top-of-funnel engagement metric rather than a measure of interest or quality.

Why it matters for outbound teams

Reply rate is easy to track and often the first metric outbound teams look at, but a high reply rate can be driven entirely by auto-replies, unsubscribe requests, or angry responses. It is most useful as a deliverability and messaging health signal, not as a proxy for pipeline. Teams that care about outcomes pair reply rate with positive reply rate and meeting booked rate.
