Connection Request
A connection request is an invitation sent through LinkedIn asking another user to join their professional network, optionally including a short personalized note. Once accepted, the sender gains the ability to message the recipient directly without needing InMail credits.

An accepted connection request is often the first real signal of engagement in a LinkedIn outreach sequence, and it unlocks free direct messaging going forward. LinkedIn limits how many connection requests an account can send per week, which makes list prioritization important.
