Cold Email

Cold email is unsolicited outbound email sent to a recipient with whom the sender has no prior relationship, typically used to introduce a product, service, or opportunity. It is distinct from marketing email sent to an opted-in list, since the recipient has not previously given consent to be contacted.

Why it matters for outbound teams

Cold email remains one of the most cost-effective ways to reach a specific, targeted list of prospects at scale, especially for B2B sales teams selling into defined buyer personas. Because it is unsolicited, it carries higher deliverability and compliance risk than opted-in marketing email, which is why practices like warmup, domain rotation, and careful list building matter so much more here. Response rates on cold email are generally lower than on warm or referred outreach, which is why volume and personalization both play a role in making it work.
