Bounce
A bounce is a delivery failure notification sent back to the sender when an email cannot be delivered to the recipient's inbox, generated by the receiving mail server rather than the recipient. Bounces are split into soft bounces, which are temporary, and hard bounces, which are permanent.
Why it matters for outbound teams
A high bounce rate is one of the strongest negative signals mailbox providers use when deciding whether to trust a sending domain, so monitoring and acting on bounces is a core deliverability task. Left unmanaged, bounced addresses keep getting emailed on future sends, compounding the damage. Most sequencers automatically remove hard-bounced addresses from future sends.
